Welcome to a Lifetime of Liberation

What does it look like to be in this for the long haul?

This month, we’re looking at what it means to engage in long-term liberation work. We’re going focus on our mindset and care practices, as we acknowledge the reality that liberation is a lifelong struggle, and we are not simply in a “moment” of resistance.

So as you watch this mini episode and get ready for the month of great discussion ahead, here are some great questions to ask yourself and your comrades.

Share

  • Have you been saying in your head, “I/we just have to get through these next few months, next few years?” What strategies come to mind when you think that?

  • If you say, “this struggle isn’t going away any time in the near future,” how does that interact with the shorter term strategies you were just thinking of?

  • If you knew that you were going to be fighting for liberation for the rest of your life, what would you like your life to look like while you fight?

  • What plan do you have for your long-term mental health during this fight?

  • What plan do you have for your long-term physical health during this fight?

  • If this battle may not be won in your lifetime, then what will be your definition of liberation while you are alive?

  • If this battle may not be won in your lifetime, then what are your definitions of success you can achieve while you are alive that will aid those long-term goals?

  • How have those who came before us found joy and liberation, in even more oppressive times?

  • How will we care for each other, and how have we cared for each other, knowing that these oppressive systems may never care for us?

  • What have we always known about how to care for ourselves and each other outside of these systems? What did our ancestors do? How can we reclaim knowledge and practices that have been stolen from us?
